DTF Printer by Production Volume: Capacity Planning Guide

Shirt count is a weak capacity metric. Plan from saleable printed area per week, artwork mix, gang efficiency, reprint rate, cure bottleneck and the hours a trained operator is actually available.

Calculate saleable area, not theoretical speed

Export a representative week of artwork, gang it in the intended RIP and include setup, head cleaning, color checks, powder/cure dwell, reprints and changeovers. The slowest safe stage sets real throughput.

Cap planned utilization below the brochure maximum

Leave capacity for maintenance, urgent work and variable artwork. A machine scheduled at theoretical maximum has no recovery room when a nozzle check, cure issue or rush job interrupts the shift.

Scale service and redundancy with order promises

As late-delivery cost rises, local service, parts stock, backup transfer supply and operator cross-training can matter more than another advertised speed increment.
